Case Study : Getting back to Work

The Brief

Opus Energy Limited supplies gas and electricity to businesses across the United Kingdom. It purchases electricity from wind, solar, hydro, and anaerobic digestion generators and supports developing energy-generating sites.


Being headquartered locally in Northampton, Opus energy approached Zest Marquees during the COVID-19 crisis to provide a marquee on a long-term basis to support the phased migration of its staff back into the office environment. 


The Challenges

•        Design and build a marquee solution to help staff “return to work” in response to COVID-19-related policy changes announced by the Government

•        Ensure the marquee is safe and suitable for use by Opus Energy staff during the COVID-19 pandemic

•        Create seating and working stations in a marquee and ensure social distancing is maintained

•        Situate the marquee within the “courtyard” area of the Opus Energy Head Office. This location was a mix of artificial grass and slabs, so it required an anchored fix to secure the structure

-        Access to the site was through the main office entrance, so the team faced security issues and a bit of a walk!  

The Solution

-        We agreed with the Facilities Manager to maximise the size available in the office courtyard 

-        Marquee deployed a 9m x 15m with open/panoramic sides to create a feeling of space

-        These were provided on a long-term basis due to the uncertainty of the pandemic


-        Regular monthly maintenance checks ensured the marquee remained safe and secure during the long-term hire

Marquee Features

  • Located centrally in the courtyard area of the Head Office
  • Panoramic / Opening windows to help views and ventilation
  • Strip lighting to ensure the workstations were serviceable
  •  Trestle tables 
  •  Folding Chairs 
  •   Mix of Water-based weights and stakes (through lifting selected slabs), where possible (to anchor marquee on hard surfaces)



The Result

A critical energy provider had a solution for the phased return to the office of its Northampton workforce. The hire lasted for 12 months. In support of the 2022 summer staff social event, Zest Marquees returned to set up a marquee in the front car park. Repeat business is an excellent endorsement of customer satisfaction – which is always our primary aim!
