Case Study : Traditional Pole Wedding Marquee

Russ Sizer • November 15, 2023

The Brief

Hannah and Guy envisioned a wedding that captured the essence of tradition, elegance, and the beauty of the countryside. They decided to host their wedding at Guy's parents, a stunning countryside property and fields and chose a traditional pole marquee for their special day.

The Challenges

1.    The biggest challenge was the unpredictable weather typical of the English countryside, which could turn their outdoor event into a washout.

2.    The couple wanted a marquee that could be customised to reflect their rustic, simple, romantic theme.

3.    Coordinating multiple catering, décor, and entertainment vendors in a remote location required meticulous planning.

The Solution

The couple engaged the services of Zest Marquees, who partnered with Chelsea Hire with experience in traditional pole marquee weddings. Together, they came up with a detailed plan:

1. **Traditional Pole Marquee:** The couple chose a large, white traditional pole marquee that exuded timeless elegance. The marquee was equipped with sidewalls that could be opened or closed, depending on the weather. 2 clear sides of the marquee created the "outside / inside" feel. Zest Marquees installed a wooden dance floor, stage and fairy lights to enhance the atmosphere.

2. ** Catering and Power:** Alongside the main generator,  Chelsea Hire provided a backup to ensure the wedding went off without any problems. A separate marquee was linked to the main one to provide catering facilities, which include a fully equipped kitchen.

3. **Customisation:** To match the couple's vision, the marquee was decorated with rustic floral arrangements, a mirror ball, and cross-back chairs. A central premium bar was installed to enhance the social experience. Outdoor lighting around and on top of the marquee created stunning focal points.

4. **Logistics:** Zest Marquees coordinated with various suppliers and ensured everything was delivered and set up on time. Local caterers provided a fantastic dining experience, and a live band played during the evening.

The Outcome

The wedding was a resounding success. Despite some rain the day before, the weather cleared up in time for the reception, where guests enjoyed the picturesque countryside views in a fantastic setting. The marquee provided an intimate, elegant space that perfectly embodied the couple's vision. The dance floor was a hit, and the bar was bustling as guests celebrated with the newlyweds!

Lessons Learned

1. Professional event planning is crucial, especially for outdoor weddings with weather uncertainties.

2. Couples can customise a traditional pole marquee to create a unique, romantic atmosphere.

3. Having a contingency plan for adverse conditions is essential.

4. Open communication and supplier coordination are critical to a successful event.

Hannah and Guy's traditional pole marquee wedding showcased the perfect blend of tradition and elegance, making it a memorable and magical day for all who attended.
